Out & About: Brooklyn Brunch Series

This past Sunday, some of NYC’s flyest young professionals gathered for Daisy Lewellyn’s third installment of her Brooklyn Brunch Series at Beso Restaurant.  Upon arrival, guests enjoyed delicious Latin cuisine and mouth-watering Sangria’s and Margarita’s.  Hola, mamacita!  The selected venue was cute, cozy, and just right for the occasion.

The topic for discussion at this Sunday’s brunch was focused around relationships, and some of the Dos & Don’ts for Men and Women.  It was interesting to hear all the different mixed opinions and viewpoints.  I think it’s safe to say men and women share a lot of the same ideas when it comes to relationships, but some of the priorities….hmmm we beg to differ!

Overall, the atmosphere was casual and chill.  There was great fashion, divas and divos, fun conversations, bursts of laughter, and most importantly…new connections were made.  It’s always nice to meet new people.

NYFW FALL 2012: Backstage Beauty with Timo Weiland

This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of exploring the majic that happened behind the Timo Weiland Men’s and Women’s Fall 2012 Show. Launching only a few short years ago including a collection of iconic neckwear, the brand has grown to also include signature clothing, knitwear, and accessories. The designs showcased in the Fall 2012 show were inspired by the classic flavor of St. Marks Place in New York City’s East Village. This was a time when the downtown area was truly “the spot” for up and coming artists, rock and hip hop musicians. Designers, Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, aimed at mimicking this interesting decade of style and revolutionizing it into wearable modern-day design.

Complimenting the ambiance of the show, L’Oreal Professionnel Master Session Artist, Joseph DiMaggio, led a team of stylist to create hair that was “expertly textured and effortlessly lived-in.” Each model sported a care-free low pony secured by a thin black cord. One of the STAR new products, L’Oreal Professionnel Fresh Dust ($19, 3.4 oz-out this coming April!) was sprayed all over and under to create volume and a controlled messy texture. Overall, the hair for the show definitely gave off a downtown eclectic vibe.

Led by Celebrity Manicurist, Gina Edwards, the nail looks were created using Impress Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails ($6-$8, CVS). These nails are pretty ideal considering everything needs to be done fast back stage. The line of nails includes 18 cool colors and patterns. There’s no messy glue to worry about, and you are done applying in the blink of an eye. Most of the colors used during the show were darker plums and purples which you can’t go wrong with for fall.

Last but certainly not least, I had a chance to chat briefly with Sephora’s Lead Makeup Artist, Jose Rivera, about the makeup looks created for the Timo Weiland show. Here’s what he had to say….

Sexy Valentine’s Day Makeup Tips from the Pro!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Some believe today’s holiday is a bit over rated, and others are indulging in the moment of love.  Either way, there is nothing wrong with being a little festive, and playing up your look for the occasion.

Not only sexy for Valentine’s Day, but also delectable for any hot date or night out is the classic smokey eye and bold red lip.  It’s just a winning combo that never gets old.

The leading man behind Skinn Cosmetics, Dimitri James, offers a few tips to help you create this look.

It’s in the Eyes: First apply a smokey gray all over your lid, wrapping down and around your lower lash line. Then apply a darker smokey shade of gray or charcoal through the crease. Follow that up with an ivory shadow under the brow bone.

NOW THE WOW: Line your entire lash line and inner tear line with Cleopatra Black Smudge Stick and ooh la la!  For the sexy cat-eye look, apply individual fake lashes to outer corner adding a healthy coat of mascara.

Kissable Irresistible Lips: Find the perfect shade of red to suit your coloring and don’t hold back. Go all out on the red lipstick. This year we are seeing heavier eyes accompanied by luscious lips, so don’t be shy!

Seductive Scent: Oh, and don’t forget to layer on some LOVE. That is the LOVE fragrance. Start with LOVE bath and shower gel then immerse yourself in LOVE body butter. Finish with LOVE roll on perfume all over your body’s pulse points. But watch out, this fragrance should come with a warning label!

All set to launch next month, China Glaze  is coming out with a new collection inspired by different themes shown through out one of the most highly anticipated flicks for 2012; The Hunger Games.  Featuring 12 new polishes, it’s apparent that each shade was tactfully chosen and made so that there’s a little something for everyone.  Everything from a sheer pink, to olive-green, neon red, and shimmery black are included in this line.  The colors are amazing, and not to mention, won’t break the bank (only $6 each @ SallyBeauty.com)!  Everybody’s buzzing, and I’m also a firm believer that the polishes will be as big of a hit as the movie
